Victorian Scottish Banded Agate and Sterling Pin - Circa 1880Victorian Scottish Banded Agate and Sterling Pin - Circa 1880Victorian Scottish Banded Agate and Sterling Pin - Circa 1880

A wonderful piece of Victorian Scottish "pebble jewelry"! The highly polished pieces of banded agate in the pin have multiple stripes and a wide variation in coloring. This exceptionally nice pin or brooch is 1 5/8" (42mm) long. The stones are in an open-backed setting to better show the translucent quality of the agate.

The setting is marked sterling on the back, and there is an old fashioned C-clasp. Condition is excellent.

Victorian Scottish "pebble" jewelry was made popular by by Queen Victoria. In mid-1800s Queen Victoria spent much time in Scotland and her Scottish castle, Balmoral. Scotland became the place to visit, and tartans, Scottish jewelry and mementos were all the fashion.
