A little treasure, 4" high without the stopper and 5" with the stopper in place. It is Victorian glass with an applied handle and all-over intricate design of swirling shamrocks and an occasional four-leaf clover.
The design shows only a little wear (all sides are shown in the photos), there are no chips or damages and the bottom has a very neatly ground and fire-polished pontil. The faceted stopper fits well, and I have no reason to believe it is not original to the cruet. The stopper has one small nick on the side.
This cruet appeared on television in 1985 as a promotion for a local PBS show and fundraiser. The representative from Christie's said it was probably Bohemian (despite the shamrocks) and dated to about 1890. The current owner inherited it from her grandmother. It has been carefully displayed in her cabinet for over 50 years.
