EAPG "Bird with Berry" open salt or salt cellar, made by McKee Glass 1880 - 1890. 3 1/2" x 2" x 1 3/4"

This design seems to have great appeal! It was originally made by Richards and Hartley Glass (without the berry), then by McKee in the late 1800's. Degenhart reproduced these birds in the 1960's, using the original McKee molds, and a later reproduction was made by Wright Boyd.

How does one tell the difference? There are slight differences in color and sharpness of detail, minor variations to the base and head. (Wright Boyd, fortunately marked the base.)

My collection of bird salts comes from an elderly neighbor of my grandmother. The friend was an older lady (born in the 1870's). She left the collection to my grandmother in the 1940's. I inherited them in the 1980's, along with my grandmother's notes as to origin. She apparently purchased a few Degenhart birds as well - the various makers help to understand identification. They have all remained packed away until recently.

These salts were produced inexpensively for the time. You will find some flash at the mold seams and a little roughness at edges. Small interior bubbles are often seen.

So many birds! I have chosen to keep just one of each color. The last photo shows the birds I currently have for sale. I am happy to combine shipping, if you are building a flock.
