American Victorian Art Glass - Large Amberina Inverted Thumbprint Pitcher
Wonderful large amberina American art glass pitcher in the IVT or inverted thumbprint pattern. It is 7 3/4" high and about 6" in diameter with an applied amber glass handle. There are no chips or other damages, but the handle attachment is a little irregular on one side (see photos). There are a few very light scratches on one side - barely visible when you catch the light just so.
This pitcher dates from the mid 1880's, and was most likely made by the New England Glass Company. Amberina glass was made by mixing a compound including gold in the glass and reheating the object as it cools. This produced a rich shading from deep red to a golden yellow.
