Old glass decanter, 6 1/2" high without the stopper, 8" high with stopper in place. The diameter is 4 1/2" at the widest point. This heavy bottomed style is often called a ship's decanter
The glass is hand blown and has a cut pontil on the base. The stopper is solid glass, multifaceted, with an etched finish on the stem. The stopper fits perfectly.
The decanter is in very good condition except for an older chip on the lip, which has been ground so it is not sharp. The stopper has 3-4 tiny nicks on the facet edges, and a much larger broken area on the base of the stopper stem. This is visible, but not apparent, when the stopper is in place. Please see the photos.
This decanter comes from a farm in Pennsylvania, near Valley Forge. It dates from the early 1900's.
