A most charming couple, just 3" high. The lady is marked "Made in Occupied Japan", which dates it to the early post WWII years, 1946 - about 1953. As Japan recovered from the war, Japanese potteries began to produce many items in imitation of European styles. This pair of figurines seems to be inspired by 18th century France. The Japanese goods were inexpensive at the time, but have since become highly collectible.

These figurines have no damages, but do have some minor wear to the gilt paint. They would be at home at a vintage wedding (even on top of a cake), in the boudoir or on a shelf.
