A mold like this is used for old fashioned steamed puddings and brown bread. Puddings can be sweet like cakes or savory meat pies. Before gas and electricity, ovens were difficult to regulate and manage, so a pudding - or cake - made on the stove top, was much easier. This mold is tinned on the inside, which makes it quite safe to use. The mold comes from a farmhouse in rural Pennsylvania. It shows signs of use, but is in overall very good vintage condition.
