This old pair of B & B ice skates dates from the mid to late 1800's. They are steel, rusty enough so the adjustable screws and clamps do not work. They will still make a nice rustic winter decoration. The skates are 11 1/2" long and quite heavy. The B&B logo is barely visible with bright light and magnification.
I was surprised to learn that ice skates, in one form or another, have been used for at least 1500 years! In 1864, Massachusetts machinist, Everett Barney, patented the clamp-on adjustable ice skate, and within a few years skating became a popular winter activity in the US.
