Pudding molds and food molds were a kitchen essential in the mid to late 1800's. Puddings were not only the creamy dessert we Americans love, but steamed corn breads, vegetable concoctions and various sweets and savories.

This stoneware mold is 2 3/4" high and 4 1/2" across and dates from about 1880. It is a creamy off white, and many would call it either yellow ware or creamware. It has a swirl or "Turk's Cap" pattern. You will see evidence of use,as there is an old chip in the rim, a small chip on the inner rim, a hairline and a chip on the foot.

This comes from rural Pennsylvania.
