Full set of 6 Liebig cards, Fleurs Alpines or Alpine Flowers. The cards are in French and date from 1896. Each card has a flower and a young lady in traditional Swiss costume.
The cards are in excellent condition with no damages and only the slightest of wear. They are in an older cellophane envelope. Included are:
Lucerne - Patte de Leon (Edelweiss)
St. Gall- Rhododendron
Glaris - Cyclamen
Tessin - Dryade
Schaffouse - Gentian
Zurich- Primavere des Alps (Primrose)
The Liebig Company of Germany was producer of "Meat Extract", somewhat like bouillion. In 1870 they began to publish fantastic colored lithographed cards in a wide variety of subjects and in several different languages. They were usually published in sets of 6, and the reverse of most cards bears advertising or a recipe.
