Single bookend with a mare and colt, 5" x 5" and about 4" deep. The figures of the horses appear to be bronze clad, and are held with screws to the wooden base. The two horses have good life-like detail and are a golden bronze color with a nice patina.
The wooden base shows wear and a few superficial scratches (no deep gouges). There was once a felt coating on the bottom, which has worn or has been removed. The smaller horse rocks very slightly on the base, and someone may have tried to tighten the screws. The photo of the bookend lying sideways shows that the colt is very secure. only very slightly loose.
There is also a loss of bronze finish in the lower part of the legs of both horses. Please see all the close up photos. No polishing or restoration has been attempted.
The former owner believes this piece was made by Jennings Brothers. We have found a signed Jennings piece with the identical figures, but a different base.
