Beautiful old hanging planter - and certainly difficult to photograph well! This is made of wire and a hobnail glass piece - perhaps an old lampshade. The wire is wrapped about the glass and has decorative curls, there are a few hanging crystals for decoration.
I bought this at an auction about 30 years ago. I have never used it (though I intended to), but it has been used sometime in the past, as there is some mineral residue inside. I do not know the age, but it is a hand-made craftsman or folk art piece. My best guess would be 1930's. The glass portion has no drainage, so it is best used to root ivy or as a vase.
The metal show some discoloration, but there are no weak or broken areas. The vase portion is about 5" high and 5" across. The total length of the planter is about 30", and the top portion is adjustable.
