Pretty tray from the 1940's, 12 1/2" x 8 1/2" and about 1 1/4" high. It was most likely made by the Syroco Company, but the smaller Orna-Wood produced similar wares.

The Syracuse Ornamental Company, known as Syroco, was the first to produce decorative molded wood pulp products with a hand carved look.

The company produced carved wood items from about 1890 through 1930. In order to meet the demand for carved wood, Syroco developed a product made from wood pulp. They used original wood carvings to make the mold, then extruded the pulp into the molds. The finished product was smoothed and varnished to resemble real wood.

Older Syroco products can be very beautiful, with patterns inspired by nature. In about 1950, the company moved on to molded plastics.

This platter or tray shows some minor wear. but is in overall very good condition. There are no breaks or repairs.
