Pair of Hand Made Cloth Dolls from Argentina - 1940's
Pair of hand made cloth cloth dolls, made in Argentina in the late 1940's. These dolls have a stiff core (probably wire or wood) and are finished with stuffed fabric. The faces are a taffeta-like material with painted features.
The dolls are 7" high. Most of the stitching is hand done - the exception is the girl's lower skirt. Th man wears a wool hat, striped shirt and black trousers. He sports a checkered neckerchief and has a blanket or poncho over his shoulder. The girl has curly wool hair with bows on her braids and a larger bow on top. Her blouse as a little embroidery at the neck.
These dolls show some wear, as the wool has deteriorated. There are frayed areas on the man's hat and side of the blanket. One of the girl's braids has come apart. These dolls have been in storage since the 1980's.
These dolls are part of a large collection of dolls from around the world. The former owner collected these over the course of many decades, from her travels or the travels of friends and family. They date from the 1930's to about 1979. She kept a record of the year and place of acquisition, so we are able to identify most of these dolls. We would like to find new homes for all these dolls, and are happy to combine shipping and to consider offers for multiple purchases.
