Lovely set of 6 Chinese export silver forks with an applied prunus blossom (or plum blossom) motif. The prunus blossom is the Chinese symbol for resilience and perseverance because the plum blossoms often bloom vibrantly even in the harsh winter snow.
The forks were made in China in the early 20th century. All 6 forks are in great condition, with minimal wear consistent with age. Each is marked "90" and "CY" on the back. The 90 indicates that the silver is 900/1000 parts silver, a slightly lower standard than sterling (925/1000). This is typical of Chinese export silver. Each fork measures approximately 5 7/8".
To my knowledge "CY" is not a recorded maker, which makes this set special for a collector. Of course, these would also make a wonderful gift for a friend, particularly one who has persevered through a recent hardship.
