Sweet early English sterling silver teaspoon. The teaspoon is in good condition with some very slight denting to the bowl consistent with age (this is over 250 years old)! The spoon has a period "AM" monogram on it and four English hallmarks which are "stretched" (typical on early English silver). This spoon is so old it pre-dates the duty system which was started in 1785! It has the following hallmarks from left to right:

1. The maker's mark (illegible)
2. The lion's mark (showing the spoon meets the sterling silver standard)
3. A crowned leopard (for London)
and
4. A date letter (which is illegible but clearly dates between 1758 and 1774 given the style. I personally think it is either the date mark for 1758 or that for 1774. So, I'm dating the spoon c. 1765. It measures 6 1/2" long and weighs 1.13 troy ounces. The Old English patterned handle tips up and not down, as was typical for the earlier spoons. A very nice, early piece.
