This Coach Convertible Clutch is from the private collection and is like new museum quality.
This is the very rare original Coach Convertible Clutch Basic Bag. This is a genuine 1970's Bonnie Cashin era model in the thick, rich Dark Walnut Cowhide leather. It is absolutely mint and has no issues, period. The leathers are so rich and spectacular, it shines like glass.
Made of extra thick glove-tanned Dark Walnut Cowhide leather, it is smooth, butter soft, and is definitely genuine Coach. The leather has that classy look and feel. It is so rich, it leaves no doubt of the quality.
This original Convertible Clutch is derived from the original 12 designs from the famous designer, Bonnie Cashin who designed some of the most famous accessories for Coach (1960 to 1972) and the Meyers Co. This gem is absolutely flawless inside and out.
This fine Coach is also known as the "Basic Bag." Ms. Cashin gave this bag this name because she wanted a design that was free of clutter and rich with leather and function. The Basic Bag is made to this day but the new ones are nowhere near the thick, luxurious leather that this original has.
To further show the "Cashin" touch, look at the oversized brass toothed "Talon" zipper and the 7" leather zipper pull. This zipper is indestructible. Many handbag manufacturers at the time were still using the early nylon dress zippers that if you got a glove or tissue caught in the teeth, the zipper was doomed and labor expensive to replace. She also introduced dog leash clips for their simplicity and strength.
Cashin also wanted the full cowhide used in the construction, not the thinner split cowhide. The leather on this Coach is over an eighth of an inch thick. The Basic Bag is made to this day but if you were to put one of the newer offerings next to this original, the richness of the leather, the stitching is clearly evident. Plus, the originals as is this fine Cashin were made in New York City.
On the inside, the suede with the Coach creed stamped on the floating pocket. It is spotless inside with the unmistakable smell of fine, clean leather. The suede is velvet soft and plush. Designed for simplicity as well as beauty, there is a single slip pocket. It is New York City made and the numbers are 927-6322. This one of the original models where the numbers are actually a serial number on a pad.
The hangtag is not present however, only to the new owner, I will provide the information to obtain a brand new, genuine, matching, and free hang tag with chain. You will receive your hang tag in about 14 days.
All the brass hardware including the trigger snaps, and D-rings, is not tarnished and shines with blinding brilliance. All of the piping is perfect. This is a great Coach that is a genuine classic collectible and is truly display quality. You will not find a mint Convertible like this hardly anywhere.
The dimensions are 10 ½ "L x 7" H x 2 "D and the removable double strap is 32" long.
