This stunning Elgin American Powder Compact is pure elegance. Elgin American, from the Illinois Watch Case Company of Elgin, Illinois, this compact has the beautiful gilded floral arrangement on the top cover surrounding the initials: V Mc E. The cover is spectacular and what you see in the pictures is a reflection.
Not to be confused with the famous Elgin National Watch Company, also from Elgin, Illinois, Elgin American made compacts in the U.S.A. until the 1950's and from then on, they were made in Japan. This is a U.S. made, 1940's original.
Open the lid and the powder well still has some inside and the original pad is intact. The mirror is clean with no fogging, which is remarkable. Overall, the brass is clean with no tarnish or pitting. The bottom is clean as well with just a few slight dents from time and use. As can be seen in the pictures, this is a gorgeous compact that will impress and is a genuine collectible.
The dimensions are 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" x 1/4 D.
