This breathtaking handbag is a genuine vintage custom-made Florentine Formal Satchel Evening Bag from the Scuola del Cuoio in Florence, Italy. Made of the finest Calfskin and adorned in genuine 22kt Gold-gilding and Gold-plated metalwork, this top-handled Kelly is a late 1950s original that is the extremely rare, top of the line model.
This inherited gem was custom ordered and purchased at the school in Florence, Italy. It is in pristine vintage condition, comes with a sleeper and from the private collection.
This Formal Satchel deserves the in-depth description so you will get to know this classic statement handbag and I ask of you to please read all. I will now begin.
In your hands, the extreme quality is immediately evident. The Dark Brown Calfskin is soft with form and feels good to the touch. Turn the mirror-polished, dual Gold-plated turn-locks clockwise and you are greeted with the smell of clean, rich leather and the splash of Tan leather lining this handbag.
It tilts out, accordion-style and there are three compartments. The first compartment has two suspended, framed leather Kiss-snap coin purses that can swivel outwards for access. Beautifully designed and executed, they are attached by a single rod that has gleaming Gold-plated acorn nuts threaded to a fine truss through the gusset. The compartment is spacious and clean.
The middle compartment has an Italian Lampo zipper and a Dark Brown leather-trimmed slip pocket to the front of it. Pull the zipper open to see the shimmering satin lining that is also immaculate.
Then finally, the third compartment which also has a Lampo zippered security pocket has the satin lining and is flawless as well. Embossed into the leather just above the pocket is the words, “Genuine Leather, Made in Italy.”
Outside, the calfskin is just remarkable and nowhere does this handbag look over sixty-two years old, but it is. The very minimal, typical signs of meticulous careful handling. No stains, no ink, and no smudges anywhere. All of the edgings are intact and most importantly, all of the Gold-gilding is intact as well.
There is no wear on the unique Gold-plated, leather-wrapped metal protective corners, which also serve as the feet for this handbag to rest; and no wear on the bottom. It is the most intricate handbag piping seen on a handbag and they are flawless. The colors are full and vibrant.
The dual turn-locks hold the flap in two positions. Turn clockwise to horizontal to open. To partially close, push the flap until both turn-locks are at a 45° angle. To securely lock, just press the flap until it clicks and the turn-locks are both vertical.
The strap is two-position adjustable and has carefully concealed snaps that allow you to carry this gem on your arm formal style or lengthened to afford shoulder carrying. The button covers for the snaps are flawless. The strap leather is supple and is perfect.
All of the Gold-plated metalwork gleams with blinding brilliance and because it is Gold-plated, it will not tarnish.

The Scuola del Cuoio (School of Leather) was founded by a combined effort from the Franciscan friars of the Monastery of Santa Croce and the Gori and Casini families. Through the years, the leather school and shop became world renown for exquisite craftsmanship and impeccable quality.
Using original designs and centuries-old methods of tanning leathers and applying 22kt Gold gilding that has been passed down through the generations, the Scuola del Cuoio creates leather goods and handbags piece by piece exclusively by hand. You can actually visit the school to see the gold-gilding process by the craftsmen and the making of the leather goods. It is a wonderful experience.
It was started as a humanitarian effort in 1950 to help post-WWII orphans to learn a trade through hands-on experience to eventually be able to support themselves. Since then, the Scuola del Cuoio has custom made leather goods for royalty, heads of states, presidents, the very-well-to-do, and the famous in entertainment from all over the world.
