This is an extremely rare, 1950s original Gucci that is truly breathtaking. It is a model that exudes pure elegance in a way no other can. This Gucci Satchel has a unique history and is a Gucci collector’s dream. Look closely at the pictures as they tell only part of the story with this rare, inherited gem. Very few models were made and even fewer exist today of this stunning Gucci. From a private collection, this investment-grade Gucci is museum quality.
It comes with the original box, tissue, and documentation. Nowhere does this Gucci look to be approaching sixty-four years old, but it is.
Made of thick, rich Pigskin leather in the color of Cognac and trimmed in genuine Gold-plated metalwork, it is beautifully and artistically designed. This is a Gucci that was made for the jet-set and the very well-to-do.
In your hands, the leather has that luxurious feel of richness. The leather shines like the day it was made. It is a quality that Gucci is still known for. Lift the flap to see the pristine Beige leather-lined interior. There is a slip pocket inside facing the zippered security pocket and just below, another slip pocket. All three are immaculate.
The 18kt Gold plated Liftboy Medallion zipper pull is present and flawless. Guccio Gucci was an elevator liftboy before he founded Gucci and the Liftboy is symbolic of his humble beginnings.
Outside, the smell of clean, rich leather permeates. The leathers are clean, full of color, and has no scratches or wear. Seldom do you see such a fine handbag in such splendid, pristine condition.
The gorgeous Gold-plated metalwork shines brilliantly and has just the slightest fade on points on the flap lift bar, the stays, and on the bottom front. The flap and the comfort pad on the strap are ornamented with rope styled bars and the strap stays are handsomely sculpted loops. On the back, is another slip pocket and it is also flawless inside.
The history of this stunning Gucci is a good one. It has the pin-hole latch and sometimes, the latching shutter springs would not catch the pin and the flap may not stay closed, only sometimes. Around late 1963, a phone call was made to the original flagship Gucci store to schedule sending it into the store to have the latch repaired. A repair slip was given with the service number.
Well, she never got around to having it done and she really didn’t want to let her prized Gucci out of her sight so, she never got it done. That slip, the Gucci tissue paper, and the original Gucci return/exchange card stayed in the box through all those years.
If you want to replace the latch, there is only one place in the country that all of the major designers (I send my repairs there, too) send their repairs to and this place can do it perfectly and give you a free estimate. It is an easy repair and would be worth it. That is the only, minor flaw with this pristine Gucci.
The box has a tear on the cover but structurally, it is sound and looks fabulous. Seldom do you ever see a Gucci of this vintage complete and in such spectacular condition. You will love this Gucci.
The dimensions are 10” L x 7” H x 3” D and the strap affords a 15” drop.
