This is one of the finest examples from the maker Louis Coblentz to be found. From New York City, Mr. Coblentz spent years in Paris studying French designers. Upon his return in 1927, Mr. Coblentz, along with three others, opened shop on West 32nd St in New York City in 1935. After outgrowing the original facility, they opened a newer, more modern showroom at 30 E. 33rd St.
His beautifully designed creations in the elegant French style resulted in handbags of high quality and craftsmanship that were stamped inside with the “Coblentz Original” label in real gold. Coblentz was known as “The Barometer of Bag Successes.” As a result, some of the most highly prized handbags were produced for those who could afford high-end models such as this luxurious, stunning beauty. From a private collection, it is in excellent condition.
This fine Coblentz, circa 1940, is a genuine rare original that was made in Belgium of the deepest Black. The pleated Perma-Suede is clean, even throughout. An elegant Coblentz that will make an impression in daytime events as well as the evening, it is truly luxurious in every way.
When you feel the flawless, pillow-soft body and see the beautiful, gleaming Belgium made frame, you know that this is a very high-quality handbag. Flip the solid brass kiss-snaps, each with rhinestones to see a clean genuine silk lining. There is a slip pocket lined in Tan silk, and another slip pocket and just above is the name: "Coblentz Original" in genuine gold lettering. On the other side is another, very deep slip pocket. This pocket is deep enough to hold today’s larger smartphones with ease discreetly.
There is not one tear or stain inside and no shattering of the silk. It is clean and odor-free. Close the latch and closes smoothly with that luxurious, "Thoomph” sound. A sound of quality.
On the outside, the artistic lines are evident and are deliberate. Mr. Coblentz worked with some of the best French designers to create handbags for the elite.
The double strap is supple and has no wear. This is truly a bag you carry with gloves. It is really that nice. This is a Coblentz that is a true, very rare collectible as only a few of this style ever existed. It is doubtful that there are many left like this. You will not be disappointed with this gorgeous Coblentz.
This is a luxurious handbag that measures 7" L x 8" H x 2 ½ ”D and the handle affords the standard 6 ½ " drop.
