This stunning Ingber Convertible Evening Bag is truly one of the most unique of the late nineteen-fifties. Ingber & Co., from New York City, with the factory in Philadelphia, was a well-known company that made handbags from the early twentieth century on into the nineteen-sixties. Ingber handbags were carried by notables from Hollywood and seen in movies. The company was at the forefront of some of the most innovative designs.
This beautiful Ingber exudes elegance in shimmering Black satin. Plated in genuine gold, the it gives luxurious character. This model is featured in 1959 Ingber ads and in many vintage handbag books. From a private collection, this Ingber is in excellent vintage condition.
Lift the eight-jeweled lock bar to see the Black satin interior. Inside, there are two slip pockets. One holds the original signature mirror and the other holds the original coin sack, also in matching satin. The mirror is clean and reflects well with just a touch of age, as can be seen in the pictures. The coin is flawless. The pockets are spotless clean and the entire interior is odor-free, as well.
On the outside, the satin is clean and shows no scratches as the sheen and color is even. Only the slightest, insignificant wear the two top edges. So minor, you can’t see them as this Ingber was given the absolute best of care and it shows. The yellowish tint seen in the pictures is from a tungsten light as the colors are even throughout, as the subsequent pictures show. The bottom is intact and the dual handles have no issues. Being a convertible, the handles stow inside making this Ingber one of the finest Evening Clutches. It will be the crowning touch to your attire and bring many compliments and looks. It is just that nice.
The frame is covered in satin and the hinges gleam like a golden mirror. And the jeweled latch closes smoothly with that luxurious sound; that "thoomph, snap of resonance" that only a quality handbag can give. You know that sound.
Perfectly sized to carry today’s phablet sized smartphones with ease, it is more spacious than it appears as a wallet can fit, as well. It is a handbag that will make a great impression and is a true collectible. Seldom do you find any handbag, especially one close to sixty-years-old with everything intact.
The dimensions are 9" L x 5 ½ " H x 2" D and the handle affords a drop of 5 inches.
