Seldom do you ever see one of these fine treasures in such spectacular condition as this Charbet. Entirely handmade in Belgium, this early 1930’s original Charbet Evening Bag is a sheer delight. Charbet, a French maker; made some of the most intricately designed high-end handbags of the era. From the private collection, it is in excellent condition.
Holding this puffy gem in your hands, you will notice the solid feel and the weight. Truly hard to imagine the sheer time it took to make this magnificent Charbet. The Pearlescent White Caviar beads are arranged in a sunray pattern with Amber Glass Caviar beads so tightly and rich, you cannot see the Soft Tan base fabric. Truly amazing quality throughout but, it doesn’t stop there.
Look at the genuine gold-plated kiss-snaps and brilliantly gleaming back at you are two, flawless cut stones. Open it to see the shimmering Silk lining with a single slip pocket. It is spotless clean with no shattering of the silk. The original Charbet tag is still in place. Looking at the tag you can see behind the Cobalt Blue super-fine needlepoint lettering, the thread ends tucked behind.
Being a convertible, the pristine Herringbone chain pivots outside to carry this treasure on your arm. The sunray pattern is on both sides in reverse of the other. When the lights hit it, you can see the color come to life. Perfectly sized to carry your smartphone and your essentials, this gorgeous Charbet will bring the compliments and looks.
At the bottom left, what appears to be loose beads are actually eight spare beads that were loosely stitched into place from new. If you prefer to cut and store them, do this very carefully and make sure you securely tie, and tuck the ends of the thread so no other beads can be disturbed. In all my years of collecting vintage beaded handbags I have read about extra beads coming with a bag but never seen it, until this one.
The good thing is all of the beads are present and in place with just a very few slightly loose, but not in danger of falling. A testament of the quality from whence this Charbet was made and also the care given through the almost 90 years of its life. It can easily give another 90 years. It is a magnificent Charbet and this charming collectible will be a star in your vintage collection, for sure.
The dimensions are 9 ½ “L x 4”H x 2 ½ “D and the chain affords the formal 5” drop.
As always, this fine Charbet will come to you shipped with the utmost care via USPS Priority Mail or your choice of shippers indicated with insurance. Never a handling charge, just the exact shipping to your zip code. I ship all over the world and will gladly combine shipping on multiple purchases.
