From one of the most respected and innovative makers of luxury handbags, this Jolles Original Art Deco Evening Bag from Austria is truly one of the rarest of its type seen today. Started in 1923 in Vienna, Austria by a Lady with a vision; Ida Jolles, she created a company that not only employed over 20,000 workers, her company also controlled 90% of the global market. This at a time when it was unheard of for a Lady to be able to achieve such accomplishments. Ida Jolles did that, and so much more.
Carried in the most prestigious stores in the United States such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Marshall Fields, Bloomingdales, and others, her creations today are true collectors’ items the world over. Starting in 2014, her great-granddaughter is restarting the company and keeping the values and quality her great-grandmother started. I have been a collector of these outstanding pieces of Art for many years and from the private collection, I am pleased to offer this virtually one-of-a-kind treasure. I can assure you that you will not find another like this one.
To begin, this late 1920’s puffy gem has Beige beads with larger faux Amber Pearls around beautiful floral embroideries of Blue, Pink, Yellow, Light Green, and Green flowers. Threaded in between is genuine Gold thread for an effect that emphasizes the absolute beauty of this handbag. This stunning handbag took almost a year to make.
The lid and the latch are the crowning touch adorned with Bluish-White beads with seven flowers that were finished with Champlevé Enameling. Each of the six petals have a faux pearl and are surrounded by them as well. A few of the pearls are missing but fortunately, they are available and can easily be restrung.
Lift the latch to see the spotless clean Amber, thick satin lined interior. There are two, Gold lame trimmed pockets. Only the slightest amount of greening at the edges where the lining meets the frame that is harmless and can be easily cleaned, but not necessary. It is perfectly presentable as it is with no worries at all.
The handmade frame is in itself, a true work of art. Made from a solid square bar, it was carefully shaped and works smoothly and closes although after almost ninety-plus years, not the tightest close. This is a collectible, investment grade purse and you will be pleasantly surprised when you see and feel it. The chain is smooth, shines brightly, and has no kinks.
This is a purse that make a wonderful impression and an outstanding addition to your collection of vintage, Art Deco handbags.
It measures 8”L x 5 ½ “H x 3”D gently stuffed with tissue. The chain has a 6” drop.
