Truly a beautiful little purse, this floral petit-point is a classic example of the painstaking work that went into a single petit-point handbag. To make one of these could span many months to over a year of a single craftsman. This sterling purse is from West Germany and dates from the mid to late 1950’s. Having 32 stitches per inch and 1000 stitches per square inch in a colorful yet not overdone style, the results are astounding. The floral arrangement is a wonderful display of colors that come to life in the lights. From a private collection, gorgeous petit-point is pristine.
The colors of the stitches are Red, Black, White, Green, Yellow, Tan, Brown, Purple, Cobalt, with a fine silver thread along the sides and bottom. The effect is nothing short of dramatic. The pattern depicts roses, lavender, and other flowers and leaves with blooms. Along the sides and bottom, the leaves are a vine trailing the length of the purse. The glitter of the micro-silver stitches sparkling in the lights will bring the looks and a smile.
Open the kiss snaps to see the clean, White silk lining. The lining is well attached to the frame with only a couple of threads from new showing. A single pocket inside with the West Germany tag intact. There are no odors and no shattering of the silk. The stainless steel frame is knurled and easy to grip and has a muted finish. The snake chain is perfect with no kinks.
This gorgeous petit-point is an evening bag that is a wonderful collectible and seldom is one found in such splendid condition.
It measures in at 6”L x 5”L x 1 ½ “D and the chain has a 6 ½ “drop.
