This is a fabulous antique pin which dates to the Victorian Era. Most likely the mid 1800's. The pin is made of gold pinchbeck and features a swivel mount to reveal a large mosaic floral piece set in goldstone on one side and the hair on the reverse. The hair is encased under a glass cover and is exquisite!
The front is made of goldstone with the mosaics set inside. The floral motif is quite beautiful and uses various shades of pink, white, blue, green, and a pale yellow or tannish shade.
The goldstone is set in a deep bezel setting which when the clasp is opened on the reverse, it allows the pin to swivel around to reveal the mourning hair section.
The piece is in VERY GOOD condition for lasting this many years./ The only issue is the metal piece that holds the hinge for the T Bar has been replaced by a "not so professional" repair. Looks like a tack has been placed to hold it in. Which I must admit, it quite sturdy, but I would have your jeweler replace the metal bar to fit inside the hinge.
The pin measures 1 7/8" long by just under 1 5/8" wide.
Very rare and collectible piece! I will pay the required insurance on this piece within the US.
