These lovely earrings are a recent Southern estate acquisition. They appear to be Damascene but are not. These earrings are signed Spain on the backs and were made in Toledo, Spain. The earrings are called both Toledoware and Damasquinado because they were made in Toledo and because much of the design is painted or enameled. Some Damasquinado also had gold or silver inlay, but Toledoware did not. These lovely earrings feature Nubian faces on a decorative background and the base is a triangular shaped piece of the same background design. The screwback earrings are 2 1/4" long and the hoop is 1 1/2" wide. These hard-to-find earrings are simply gorgeous and in excellent vintage condition with minor wear to the enamel! Toledoware collectors delight!
