Mali is home to many exotic bead markets. These are African beads from Mali. This unusual strand of faux amber resin beads was likely brought to Africa by European Traders who recognized the value of amber beads and discovered a way to replicate it using various resins that were discovered in the early to mid-20th century. Many of these beads were made in Mali.
This necklace is a fascinating array of these resin beads. The colors are a combination of egg yolk, butterscotch, orange, amber, and not-so-plain old yellow. The beads are big...measuring up to 27mm wide. There are crackles and combined colors...all part of the natural Mali magic.
The necklace measures 21 inches end to end but allowing for the thick beads, the wearable length is at 18 to 20 inches. The necklace weighs 125 grams. The sterling silver chain has a hook closure so you can adjust the length to your liking. Marked 925.
Necklace is in excellent vintage condition. Mid-century, Mali.
