This miniature deck of children's playing cards was made in Italy, circa 1950s (as best as we can determine).
There are 40 cards in a wrapper marked CARTINE DA GIOCO - EDIZIONI CICOGNA. The deck measures 1 3/8 by 1 3/4 inches.
The colorful graphics are based on early Naples or Neapolitan patterns which have much the same origins as Sicilian playing card patterns. Many figures have Spanish antecedents though not associated with any particular Spanish pack. Examples of these small cards are known from the late 18th century. The Jacks of Swords and Clubs resemble figures in the early Sicilian pattern. The courts stand on colored platforms and the eagle on the ace of coins is double-headed and uncrowned.
This deck has not been used (except for our photos). Excellent vintage condition. Great addition to a playing cards, miniature, or dollhouse collection.
