What once carried cigarettes now makes a most unusual and attractive business card or money case.
This two-sided Japanese case is enameled in black and is inlaid with genuine mother-of-pearl. One side shows a Japanese sailboat on the moonlit water. The other side is inlaid with a Japanese style pagoda, mountains in the background and three ducks waddling by.
The case measures 4 by 3 inches. It's about 3/8 inch thick. The old cord is still inside. The clasp pushes in to open. It snaps closed securely.
The case shows light age appropriate wear but is overall in very good vintage condition. The inlay is intact and the case is solid. This case was most likely a souvenir brought back by a soldier stationed in Japan post WWII. Circa late 1940s.
