Pass the Kleenex...we're getting all fahklempt here. This old jazz band pin is one of our early finds back when we opened shop in December 1969. We bought out a jewelry store in Queens that had been there since the Victorian era and barely knowing anything about anything, we were rewarded with some fantastic finds. There were several of this pin which we thought were long gone but this one just turned up in a buried box in our warehouse.
We later found this pin advertised in a 1939 jewelry catalog. It's a great old funky figural pin, dangling with seven cool musicians (one is the band leader with a baton). The late 1930s / 40s was the era of the big band and here you have it, preserved in jewelry form.
The pin measures 1 5/8 inches across the top music note bar by 4 1/2 inches long. It's made of gilded white metal with much of the gilt gone and leaving a nice patina of silvertone.
