SPNEA stands for the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiques. It's now known as "Historic New England".
This pin was a replica of an original that was part of their collection. Since 1910, SPNEA has
compiled the largest collection of New England antiquities from the 17th century onward.
We're not sure who this lovely woman is on the pin (couldn't find another like it) but she represents someone from history. She's fully gilded on a black enamel background with a gilt self-frame to match her flowing dress and scarf.
The pin measures 1 3/8 inches across by 1 5/8 inches high. Secure rollover clasp on the smooth goldtone back. Marked SPNEA. Excellent vintage condition.
