These 1950s Vendome earrings are so artistic, you might be tempted to frame them and hang them next to your Picasso. But put these beauties on your ears and reap the compliments.
The earrings measure 7/8 by 1 1/8 inches. They start at the top with a gilded bead with floral shapes and swirls. At center, there's a thick band of purple/black carnival glass seed beads. At the bottom, an art glass banded pink bead adds the allure.
The backs are finished with goldtone filigree and a newly patented earring back. It's Patent number 2809501. This 1957 clip was patented by Coro Inc. of Rhode Island, parent company of Vendome. The patent says "the present invention relates to the jewelry art, and has particular reference to a novel construction for an earring ear wire. The principal object of the invention is to provide an ear wire having an ear lobe engaging member with adjustable tension."
So, basically, this earring provides your lobe with adjustable comfort in the form of a clip with a screw. Beautiful front. Comfortable back. The best of both worlds when it comes to vintage designer earrings.
Excellent vintage condition.
