This is a fantastic vintage figural pin of the Lion Rampant...a fierce snarling lion with paws ready to strike. The lion is a common subject in heraldry. It's always been regarded as the 'King of Beasts', symbolizing courage, nobility, royalty, strength, stateliness and valor.
This pin has been tamed with a crown and accents of clear white crystal rhinestones. One red fiery rhinestone eye says 'don't mess with me but I sure would look good on your lapel'.
This pin measures 2 1/2 inches across by 2 3/8 inches high. It's 1/2 inch deep. The back has a secure rollover clasp. The pin is unmarked which came as a surprise since this is such a well-made and impressive brooch.
And if you have some 'Scottish' in you, you'll be happy to hear that this lion rampant also happens to be the insignia of the Royal Banner of the Royal Arms of Scotland, also known as the Royal Banner of Scotland, or more commonly the Lion Rampant of Scotland, and historically as the Royal Standard of Scotland. That's lots of 'Royal' and plenty of 'Scotland'...but their symbol doesn't have rhinestones.
Excellent vintage condition. Circa 1970s.
