When we found these old Czech crystal glass beads, the string was frayed, the clasp wasn't working and the decades of dust almost obliterated the exceptional carving of the beads. Do we cry into our wine or run off to a good jeweler who could restring this to its past Art Deco glory days?
We ran and found the 'bead whisperer' who brought this beauty back. Then we drank some wine to celebrate.
The clear beads are both clear and frosted. Each bead has six panels carved with a recessed flower. The top and bottom of these beads are frosted. The clear beads are sandwiched between frosty yellow hobnail 'flowers'. The center bead is the exception...all alone, showcasing its intricacies.
The necklace measures 16 inches long. The beads are 5/8 inch wide. The fishhook clasp is vintage gilt on sterling (marked STERLING). The necklace weighs 80 grams. It wears close to the neck...could probably be lengthened with a bit of chain at the ends.
Under strong magnification. you can see some dings and fleabites to the glass edges. There's still a bit of soil in the crevices of the crystal if you look really hard. Overall, this necklace is in excellent restored condition. It gets a second chance at reviving the splendor of 1930s Czech beads.
