If only someone would place a heaping stack of Aunt Jemima pancakes in front of us, dripping with syrup and butter. It would be retro heaven.
This Aunt Jemima and Uncle Mose set brings back those delicious memories of how people ate circa 1950s.
This kitchen set was made of red and yellow plastic by F & F Mold & Die Works of Dayton Ohio. circa 1949. It includes the sugar (no lid) and creamer, the 3 1/2 inch salt and pepper shaker set, the Aunt Jemima syrup dispenser, and the large 5 inch salt and pepper set. Seven pieces.
The only notable damage is to the 5 inch Uncle Mose's shoes which are chipped along the back edges. You don't see it from the front. A few tiny nicks to paint here and there but overall, these pieces are intact with bottom stoppers and clean insides.
HISTORY - Aunt Jemima and Uncle Mose shakers and other items were Quaker Oats premiums made by the F & F Mold & Die Works of Dayton, Ohio in the late 1940s though the characters were around long before that. Aunt Jemima pancake mix was first made in 1889 by Pearl Milling Company. It was the first pancake mix and the world was waiting for pancakes. Aunt Jemima became the icon for the brand and pancakes in general. The name "Aunt Jemima" was based on a song performed in vaudeville. Pearl Milling Company was sold to R.T. Davis Mill and Manufacturing Company in 1890 and Nancy Green, a former slave, was hired to represent Aunt Jemima. The company name became the Aunt Jemima Mills Company in 1914. Quaker Oats bought the company in 1926. Uncle Mose is a character based on the song "Old Man Mose" written by Louis Armstrong and Zilner Randolph in 1935.
