Find a great hunk of polished amethyst. Dip it 3/4 way around in a coat of thick sterling silver. Don't make it even...leave it abstract and unpredictable. Frame it in a thick circle of sterling silver so just enough of the purple-to-white gemstone shows through. Then hang the pendant from a long 26 inch solid sterling silver chain. Now give yourself a pat on the back. You've just created this fantastic necklace.
If only it were that easy we'd all be a jewelry artist / designer.
This is a great pendant necklace for all the aforementioned reasons. Unique one-of-a-kind design. Well constructed. Modernist. Brutalist. Wearable art of the times.
The pendant measures 1 7/8 inches across by 2 1/4 inches high with bail. The chain is 26 inches long. The necklace weighs 58 grams. There's no clasp though one can easily be added. Both pendant and chain have been acid-tested for sterling.
If you look at the stone through a magnifier you'll see the inner mysteries of natural amethyst stone. There are color variants and lines that go in different directions. These are all internal and are not cracks or hairlines. If you run your nail along the stone's surface, it won't catch on anything...all smooth sailing...nailing in this case.
Excellent vintage condition. Handmade 1970s. One more thing if you decide to make one yourself. Please...don't forget to sign it. We wish we knew who made this one.
