No ordinary cameo, she's Demeter, the Greek Goddess of the Harvest. Her Roman name is Ceres. Her symbol is a stalk of wheat...she wears two of them in her hair in this hand-carved Italian cameo pin / pendant.
The beautiful Demeter is set in a fitting 14K solid gold frame. It's made of 14K gold in both yellow and white gold. The ornate floral gold frame is made with white gold figural leaves that give off a diamond-like sparkle. (A jewelry dealer friend I showed this to said 'Are those diamonds?' before she looked at it more closely and saw that it was in fact the white gold leaves.)
This Victorian era cameo can be worn both as a pin or a pendant. A bail on the back lifts up for a chain. The clasp is a secure flip-up closure.
The cameo measures 1 3/8 by 1 3/4 inches high. It weighs 10 grams. The back edge is marked 14k as is the top of the clasp.
Demeter makes a superb cameo in excellent antique condition. Circa 1910. Must have been a good year for the harvest.
