We saw her. She wore a star-covered bandana on her red-haired head and a ruffled collar around her neck. Her cheeks were rosy but her eyes were a little sad. She was smelling a rose. We called her 'Bertha'. She just looks like a 'Bertha'. It was love at first sight. We had to take her home.
This pin was made out of clay and hand-painted in colors far more cheerful than Bertha's face. Her glossy eyes are expressive as she looks off to the side. Her tiny hand and rose is not symmetrical to her big round face. You just want to pinch her ruddy cheeks.
The pin measures 2 3/4 inches across by 2 7/8 inches high. The back has a glued-on rollover clasp on the red terra cotta clay. There are little imperfections on the back but Bertha's face is perfect. We're hoping that once Bertha is done smelling the roses, her face will break into a big smile.
But then, that will have to be another pin.
This wonderful folk art pin is wearable art. Bertha will make friends for you wherever you take her.
