It's small but it's oh so nice. This circa 1920s pin is reverse-carved glass with a vignette of an aulete piper playing an aulos, a Greek wind instrument, often depicted in art and found in archaeology.
The scantily draped piper is backed in silver foil that reflects light in various shades of silver to charcoal gray. The backing is silver-tone metal with a deep secure ~C~ clasp. The metal did not test for sterling but could be 800.
The pin measures a petite 13/16 inch across by 1 1/8 inches high. The four prongs around the edge resemble the claw feet that were a popular design element.
The pin is in excellent vintage condition. Very unique.
