Which one do you like better?...the round-faced beauty with wavy hair, glancing over her shoulder at you? Or, swivel her around to see the sophisticated lady with big plumed hat, high collar and gilded jewels around her neck.
They're both hand-painted portraits on back to back porcelain...both lovely and detailed and revolving to suit your mood or outfit. They're wrapped in a wide band of gold-filled metal which sits and revolves in a larger frame of twisting gilded metal.
The pin measures 2 1/8 inches across by 2 1/2 inches high. The portraits alone are 1 1/2 by 1 7/8 inches. The pin weighs 42 grams.
The pin comes in its original antique box from Italy. We can't be sure if pin and box started out together but they've been together for at least decades so we keep them together.
There may have been another flower overlay at the top of the pin as we see a little ding in the gilding like something came off there. It's a minimal flaw. The swiveling pin works smoothly. It's in very good condition commensurate with its antique age. The ladies are as fine as can be.
This is a rare size...larger than most. It's also rare to find these with hand-painted portraits. And VERY rare to find two portraits in one pin. Circa 1880.
