This lot of antique CDV carte de visite photographs are of some of the top Prussian Generals of the Prussian Army, circa 1870.
Four of the photo cards feature individual generals that include...Count Von Bittenfield, Von Roon, Von Steinmetz, and Von Moltke. The other photo shows vignettes of five generals that include Beyer, Horn, Wnuck, Manstein, and Goeben.
The CDV cards measure 2 3/8 inches across by 4 inches high. These are original circa 1870 sepia tone photos that came out of a family album featuring photos from about 1860 to 1880s.
The photos are all in very good to excellent condition. Lot of 5 CDV military photos.
As an example, General Von Roon was a Prussian soldier and statesman. He was Minister of War from 1859 to 1873, Roon, along with Otto von Bismarck and Helmuth von Moltke, was a dominating figure in Prussia's government during the key decade of the 1860s, when a series of successful wars against Denmark, Austria and France led to German unification under Prussia's leadership. A conservative and reactionary supporter of the monarchy, he was an avid modernizer who worked to improve the efficiency of the army. Helmuth von Moltke was a German Field Marshal. The chief of staff of the Prussian Army for thirty years, he is regarded as the creator of a new, more modern method of directing armies in the field
