It's not often we find a great piece of vintage Peruvian folk art jewelry but here it is, handwrought in solid sterling silver.
The necklace has seven main panel links, each with overlays of intricate symbols relating to Peru's culture and history. There are folk people, the llama, an Indian figure, a masted ship, and in the center is the Incan Tumi...a national symbol of good luck. Between the larger panels are smaller links of Aztec totem poles. Noteworthy is the pebbled background of each panel and the Aztec patterns around the edges.,,all done by hand.
The necklace measures 20 inches around, ending in a secure slide-in box clasp. The center panel is 1 inch long. The necklace weighs 40.7 grams.
The necklace has no markings. It's been acid-tested for sterling. Circa 1950s-60s. Excellent vintage condition with beautiful unpolished patina.
