This bold sculptural torque necklace was hand hammered by jewelry designer Allen Jacobsen. It's hand signed / etched by the artist and dated 1985.
Made of heavy sterling silver clad metal (acid-tested), the design is both Modernist and Brutalist, following the form of the neckline with a sleek center and rolled curving edges.
The necklace measures about 16 inches around but there's some leeway in how you place it so this would fit any number of necks. It's 2 inches wide at the dipping center. The opening is wide so it's easy to put on. A chain can be added there by a jeweler.
This is a hefty necklace...it weighs 161 grams. This is an early statement piece by the artist. Excellent vintage condition.
(Mini bio - Jacobsen had been creating jewelry for years but it wasn't until he created a bracelet for his mother that his work was 'discovered'. She loved the bracelet so much she displayed it in her store’s window. An editor from Vogue saw it and was impressed enough to feature Jacobson’s work. His designs appeared in magazines, on the cover of McCall’s, and on celebrity necks and wrists.)
