This fine vintage red ware clay pot is signed FINA. We believe this was made by one of the many family potters descendant from Sara Fina Tafoya (1863 - 1949) who was the most renown of the early Santa Clara potters. She was the matriarch of a dynasty of Pueblo potters who carried on her craft both individually and in collaboration.
The polychrome pot has a fine smooth shape with a wide mouth. It measures 5 1/2 inches tall by 4 inches across the opening.
This jar's decoration includes a dark sienna color background with polychrome slip designs painted in black, tan and white. The line work pattern is impeccable, repeating around the sides.
This beautiful pot is in excellent vintage condition. We see no signs of wear, chips, cracks or scratches. This is a fine work of handmade pottery art...from a family of artisans.
