This mid-century Taxco sterling silver necklace is very high-quality with details we don't usually see. The face pendant is hand carved of black onyx. The carving is refined...an Aztec or Mayan tribal face wearing a headdress and collar set with beautiful green malachite. The pendant is made with 950 silver...higher grade than 925 sterling. Black onyx beads and silver cones dangle along the collar.
The pendant back is hallmarked TA-156 950. It measures 1 3/8 by 3 1/4 inches. The bail slides onto the solid sterling silver ~V~ shaped necklace band. It's braided of sturdy sterling bands that make it 16 inches around by 1/4 inch wide. It's marked 925 MEXICO. It's curved to fit the shape of the neckline.
Together, these weigh 57.8 grams. Both pendant and necklace band are in excellent vintage condition with original silver patina left as found (unpolished). What's nice about these pieces is that they can be interchanged with other pendants or chains you have. The band can be worn by itself too. Circa 1960s.
