It's rare to find a 3-piece set by Miriam Haskell and this one is just exquisite in every way.
The focus is on the pearls. These are baroque glass pearls made by the Niki Company of Tokyo Japan. Frank Hess visited the company and was so impressed with the quality of their glass bead pearls, he licensed Niki to be the exclusive supplier of baroque and smooth pearls to Haskell.
The stars of each of these pieces is the large baroque pearl, flatter and wider, oddly-shaped with no two alike. The luster on these pearls is outstanding...not just the large beads but all the ones in between too. The large pearls measure 15mm to 16mm (3/4 inch) wide. The others are in the 7mm range.
The necklace measures 30 inches long, ending in a secure slide-in clasp. The clasp is a floral of rose montees on Russian gold over brass. There are rhinestone rondelle spacers. The necklace can be doubled up to wear as a choker.
The bracelet measures 7 1/4 inches long. It has 3 large pearls, one in a cluster of dangles at the spring ring clasp.
The levered screw-back earrings have a floral post of rhinestones, center pearl and Russian gilt. One large pearl dangles with a rondelle cap.
Both the necklace and the earrings are signed MIRIAM HASKELL. The bracelet is not signed but is definitely part of the set.
The only flaw is that the tiny metal spacers are age tarnished. A professional jeweler might be able to clean these though they really add more to the age and patina of the set than they detract from it. Even through a magnifier we can't find any damage to the nacre of the pearls. It's like white satin. No wonder Hess was so impressed.
