You like 'different'? This is different. It's a large sterling silver pin of four military stripes in a ~V~ shape. A five-point sterling star hangs at each side.
This vintage pin was made in Israel using the lost wax casting method which gives this pin a big thick puffy look though the inside is hollow where the wax casting once was. The lost wax method is work intensive but allows the silversmith to make large pieces without the heavy weight or cost of making it solid silver. The oldest lost-wax cast sculpture was found in the Cave of Treasure in Israel and has been dated back to circa 3700 BC. Today, some artists still use these methods that are over 5700 years old.
This pin measures 6 inches across with the stars by 4 1/4 inches high. It weighs 45.8 grams. This pin was black when we got it so we had to polish it up a bit to see the detail. In doing so, the paper label that said 'Sterling - Made in Israel' came off. We acid-tested this for sterling to confirm. This is any early piece as it had the label rather than the more recent stampings.
The clasp is a secure ~C~ style. Each star and the bottom of the stripes has a loop. Not sure what they're for...maybe to hang your own medals. Excellent vintage condition. Can be polished more and appears to be unworn. This would look fantastic worn on your sleeve where real military stripes would go.
