This clown is happy because he ate a lot of cookies. That's why he's holding his belly. That's the way to eat cookies...till your belly puts a smile on your face.
Circa 1940s, this big ceramic cookie jar is hand-painted. Remarkably, 95% of the paint is intact which is unusual since many of them lose their paint over the years.
The jar measures about 12 inches high. The bottom is marked U.S.A. with a number that looks like 5252. There's overall crazing which is a common age-related condition of these cookie jars. There are no cracks, chips, stains or cookie crumbs. In fact, this jar doesn't look like it was used very much. It also seems to be a version that's hard to find. Overall, this clown is ready to fill his belly so you can fill yours.
