This rare old sterling silver bolo tie is by Emma Melendez...one of the most sought after Taxco designers. She was the niece of the great silversmith Rafael Melendez. Emma opened her Taxco Mexico shop in 1953 and was active as a designer between 1953-1971. She produced quality Mexican jewelry and accessories, highly sought after today.
This bolo tie / necklace features the comedy - tragedy masks that are the symbols of theater. The bolo slides smoothly along the original woven gray silky cord. Both the bolo and the tips are heavy silver. The thick sterling cones with ball finials measure 1 1/2 inches long.
The hallmark says...STERLING TAXCO EMMA with the Eagle 3 mark. We've left the patina unpolished. This rare and unusual EMMA piece is in excellent vintage condition.
